Andrew Smith is our senior Auctioneer and one of our Fine Art Valuers. He is based in our Winchester office and also runs the professional department, specialising in building surveying & architectural projects. Andrew is a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and with over 30 years experience is a highly competent Auctioneer.
Janice Smith MRICS
Janice Smith MRICS is the partner responsible for the auction department and is also the probate administrator. Janice is a professional member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and is our valuer of ceramics, undertaking both written and home valuations. Janice has a particular knowledge and interest in ceramics and glass.
Gary Loftus BA (Hons)
Gary has been with Andrew Smith and Son since 2001. As well as the day-to-day running of the saleroom, Gary shares the workload of written valuations and home visits, advising on all aspects of auction procedure and catalogues various sections of each sale. Having worked for many years in the specialist antique Persian carpet trade, his particular fields of interest are carpets, furniture, clocks and militaria.
Catherine Hockley BA (Hons)
Catherine is often the first point of contact and ensures the smooth running of the administrative process. Previously employed by Christies, London and qualified in Fine Arts Valuation, Catherine is able to advise on all aspects of the auction process, having a particular interest in jewellery.
Nick Jarrett FRICS Auctioneer/Valuer
Nick is a well known and respected professionally qualified Auctioneer and Valuer who, jointly with Andrew Smith, conducts our Fine Art & Antiques auctions.
Annie Archer Administrator/Cataloguer
Annie is our saleroom assistant with over 12 years experience of working within the auction industry. Annie assists in the layout and cataloguing of our general sales as well general administrative duties.
Andrew Wilson & Adam Gough Head Porter/Porter
Andrew & Adam are our full time porters. They are jointly responsible for keeping track of and storing all the items that are consigned for auction with us (currently over 1,000 lots per month), in addition to organizing the collection of goods and laying out of our sales. Andrew & Adam are assisted at peak times by our team of regular part-time porters, who enable the smooth functioning of our sales.
Specialist Valuers
In addition to the above members of staff, we have a team of highly skilled specialist consultants with considerable experience in he antiques/auction trade, who work closely with and compliment our full time team. These consultants cover the valuation and cataloguing of jewellery and silver, books, watches and oriental art etc. Our specialist valuers have correctly identified or 'discovered' many valuable items over the years with record prices being achieved in some cases.
