A pair of 19th century Chinese blue and white ginger jars and covers, each painted in rich tones of underglaze blue with four playful Buddhistic guardian lions amongst stylised flames below diaper banding around the shoulders interspersed by floral sprays, and prunus on cracked ice banding around each foot, the bases with four-character seal script 'Qianlong Nian Zhi' marks, but late Qing period, 20 cm high
One under-side of cover with star-split in the glaze, not visible on exterior, generally good condition with light wear commensurate with age, glaze/firing imperfections and pinholing, a good matched pair, similar pitting to glaze on both
